Location and Facilities
Located on “The Street” (Post Code IP10 0EU), next to the Primary School, the Hall has been a focus for village life since 1920. The buildings and land were donated to the village by Mr G Pretyman of the Orwell Park Estate in 1957. The Hall was extensively rebuilt to an impressive standard with a National Lottery grant in 2003 and in 2008 the Suffolk Environmental Trust provided a grant towards the provision of a childrens’ exterior learning and play area.
Approached through an attractive Lych gate and paved path, the foyer with modern including disabled facilities, leads to the main hall. The double doors reveal an oak strip floor ideal for activities such as dancing (14.4m by 7.3m with a ceiling of 3.0m), and a carpeted seating area to one side (8.5m by 2.5m). The hall has an amplifier and microphone with ceiling loudspeakers for background music or announcements, induction loop hearing facilities and a projection system is available. A small stage is currently unavailable for use. The kitchen is fitted with a cooker, refrigerator and water heaters providing excellent catering facilities. At the rear is a separate room and outside area for exclusive use of the Nacton & Bucklesham Under-5’s pre-school group. These do not form part of a hire of the main hall and are out of bounds.
