The Erskine Centre

The Erskine Centre makes an ideal venue for community groups, public events, private parties, weddings, conferences and commercial enterprises. The main hall area includes a stage, and has a serving hatch to the kitchen as well as direct access. The main hall can accommodate 90 to 100 people and it  has excellent facilities for all including disabled access and a disabled toilet. The hall had a new roof 4 years ago which is insulated and the hall was also completely redecorated.  The kitchen was completely refurbished to a professional standard last year and is large, modern and fully equipped. 

In addition there is a second smaller room called the Stirling Room which is ideal as a meeting room and can accommodate up to 15 people comfortably and is available to hire separately this also has a serving hatch into the kitchen and direct access, it also has it’s own separate access from the hall. 

This year (2026) we installed broadband facilities, so now have wifi access. Both rooms are accessed via an entrance hall and each have separate access from each other.  There are separate Male and Female toilets and a cloakroom/lobby area where you can hang your coats. Everything is on one level so there are no stairs and many exits for safety purposes. The building is very bright and light and we have many regular classes such as Chair based exercise classes, Pilates, Yoga, Tai Chi, a local choir rehearses there and hold their concerts in the main hall and we have many children’s party bookings.

A car park is provided at the front of the hall, and can cater for about 20 cars.  It is adjacent to the large playing field which is funded and maintained by Chedburgh Parish Council. The Erskine Centre is one of the largest in the area and is about 8 miles south of Bury St Edmunds just off the A143.   

The Erskine Centre is managed by a team of 8 Trustees who are all volunteers and known as the Chevington, Chedburgh, Depden and Rede Community Council. To enquire about booking either the Main Hall or the Stirling Room please contact the Booking Secretary, Mrs Vanessa Smith at [email protected]
